As our industry continues to take preventative measures in light of the recent COVID-19 developments, everyone is striving to keep consumers safe while satisfied. Entertaining at home while maintaining social distancing restrictions have been made easier thanks to companies like Ambrosi Food USA. The cheesemaker has expanded its Millennial Line, which perfectly suits the new retailer and consumer needs brought on by new consumer eating habits, and is even teasing new products.
Giacomo Veraldi, Chief Executive Officer, Ambrosi Food USA“This unprecedented situation is driving the food industry into a different balance between ‘away from home’ and ‘at home’ meal consumption,” Giacomo Veraldi, Chief Executive Officer, said. “Foodservice is almost completely on hold, and social distancing is the new way of living. In New York City, for example, I have already seen retailers switching from a ‘cut-and-wrap’ program to a pre-cut program, where there is no more interaction between customers and mongers—it is all self-service.”
Which makes it easier to restock shelves with less need for trained employees. The full line of 30 pre-cut wedges are fixed weight, ranging from top rotating items to unique specialties, all under the Ambrosi brand. Each category of cheese has a different color to associate with each label:
Parmigiano Reggiano in dark green
Grana Padano in blue
Semi-hard cheeses in red
Washed rind cheeses in orange
Blue cheeses in purple
Fresh cheeses in light green
Ambrosi will be releasing its Parmigiano Reggiano flakes and grated products in 6 oz cups starting in May
“One of the great aspects of this line is that it has been created to ‘mix and match’—consumers pick three different cheese colors, some nuts, and dried fruit. There, you will have a perfect cheese board to enjoy at home,” continued Giacomo. “Each label explains the different cheese types and its functional benefits along with the type of milk and allergens.”
With so much cheese to choose from, it’s hard to pick! On top of that, Ambrosi will be releasing its Parmigiano Reggiano flakes and grated products in 6 oz cups starting in May, expanding the cheese-enjoying potential.
Giacomo further stated that with consumers now cooking more at home, retailers are also taking note of the products being offered. He further notes that some habits formed now will most likely be carried on once the current situation has settled, such as:
Cheesemongers not having to handle 80 lb heavy wheels
Less waste during the cutting process
Less nude product handling
Labels depicting the cheese properties for better at-home preparations
More at-home dining, meaning more social moments to share
In case of major issues, a more convenient and concise recall process for retailers
Each category of cheese has a different color to associate with each label
“COVID-19 or not, Ambrosi USA has the answer for retailers that want to be ready to follow any new consumer behaviors,” Giacomo concluded. “I think we can support everyone during this tough period by helping retailers keep their counter full of specialty cheeses with as few concerns as possible.”
